The Best Family Beaches
The sun is shining and the beach is calling me. It’s official: summertime is here. I enjoy spending my summer days basking in the sun while chatting with good friends, riding the waves with my kids and getting sand between my toes.
For me, there’s nothing more relaxing then spending the day taking in all the sights, sounds and smells that the beach has to offer. Here are a few of my favorite family friendly beaches.
Zuma Beach
As a teenager, Zuma 6 was THE spot to hang out at. As a parent, I have moved on down to tower #15. There are always lots of other families there with kids building sand castles and playing Frisbee.
I always set up camp close to the lifeguards. This came in particularly handy last summer when my son got stung by a jelly fish, the lifeguard was right there to pour vinegar on the sting. My son was back in the water within minutes.
Zuma is terrific for families because of all the amenities they have: easy parking, nearby restrooms, showers, volleyball nets, swings and a snack bar. You can avoid the $6 parking fee by finding a spot on P.C.H.
Carpinteria
Just a quick 35-minute drive on the 101 Freeway and you’ll find yourself at one of the world’s safest beaches.
Caprinteria is known for its calm surf and shallow waters. This is a great beach for taking long walks where you will find a large variety of beautiful shells.
Last summer, we stumbled upon Carp Yoga ; they offer kids yoga classes right on the sand. In the summer, you’ll find platforms out in the ocean. My son and I love swimming out there and jumping off. We were lucky last year and saw a few dolphins close up.
If you’re up for a short walk you can visit the Seal Sanctuary where you can view seals lounging in the sun, muscling their way to the right resting spot. One downfall of this beach is the tar, which will eventually end up on your feet.
I found liquid Dawn works great to remove it. After a long day in the sun, we always stop by the Spot on Linden Avenue and grab a juicy burger before we head home.

Grace Bay Beach is a 12-mile stretch of pristine white sand running along the northeast coast of Providenciales. Although Providenciales is the Turks and Caicos’ primary center for tourism and Grace Bay Beach is its most well-known beach, it’s easy to find a secluded spot due to the beach’s length.
With its plethora of water sports, convenient amenities, and beautiful setting, it’s no wonder that numerous sources have called Grace Bay Beach one of the world’s best beaches. According to Lydia Fisher, everything about Grace Bay Beach is utter perfection: the gorgeous water, sparkling blue sky, clean white sand, and lack of crowds. She goes so far as to call it, “paradise on earth.” Given all this, how can any beach lover resist a trip to the Turks and Caicos’ Grace Bay Beach?

Directions:Most people get to Providenciales by air. Multiple US and international airlines provide service into Providenciales International Airport (PLS) including American Airlines, US Airways, Delta Airlines, Air Canada, British Airways, Bahamas Air, and Air Turks and Caicos.
From the airport, taxi service, rental cars, and rental scooters are available. Remember, in Turks and Caicos drivers drive on the left side of the road!
