In honor of the restaurant's 55th birthday on Tuesday Casa Vega will be offering its most popular menu item, the house combination for $2.15 (the price charged in 1956 when the restaurant first opened; usually $12.75 at lunch and $18.25 at dinner with soup or salad). The combination comes with your choice of two items such as a beef, chicken or cheese enchilada or a beef or chicken taco along with Spanish rice and refried beans. Black Market Liquor Bar, a new drinking/dining spot debuted recently in Studio City in the former Wine Bistro space. Open 5 p.m.- 2 a.m. daily, full table service is available. Los Angeles restaurateur Steven Arroyo just opened Escuela Taqueria, a 25-seat taco restaurant. Open for dinner 6-10 p.m. daily, the menu features about a dozen ever-changing tacos (duck, pork, etc.) served with accompaniments like pickled cactus and onions, habanero coleslaw and pumpkin seed gremolata.
