Smith named Morgan County Distinguished Young Woman

Areas of competition included interview, fitness, self-expression, and scholastic ability. Smith, a twirler baton, won the talent with his routine of "Hawaii Five-O." Smith, also winner of the reward of self-expression, is the head cheerleader at Hartselle High School and is the daughter of Jeff and Pam Smith.

In all, Smith was awarded a $ 2400 cash for the title, with a $ 5,000 scholarship at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, a $ 500 scholarship for the granting of talent, and a $ 500 scholarship for the granting of self-expression.

She will represent the County of Morgan, the distinguished young woman from Alabama Program 20 to 21 January 2012 in Montgomery.

First Honoree Tew was Miriam from Randolph School. Tew also won the "Be Your Best Self" Essay Award.

Honoree Mary Beth was the second snow Austin High School. Snow also won academic awards and fitness.

Samantha Scheler of Decatur High School won the Spirit Award. A total of $ 7,400 was awarded to the class of that year.

(The release) The Marshall Association, a professional organization serving the employee of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, has awarded four scholarships to college bound children of members of the association.

Matthew Volz, Maria Torres, Hannah Hicks, and Robert Pendley, all children of team members Marshall Center, received the Marshall Scholarship Association recently. Price 2011 totaled $ 3 000.

The Marshall Association, which includes employees of the public service, retirees and contractors, provides opportunities for informal networking and community building for members.In addition to the

annual competition for college scholarships, the association sponsors a program of lectures on topics of interest to Marshall Center employees.

Contributions and donations are used by the association to provide annual cash awards in technical and non-technical study. To qualify, students must apply for scholarships. The winners are selected by a team of members of the Association Marshall.

Candidates are judged on performance in class, or SAT and ACT scores, extracurricular activities, community involvement and an essay on what to do in 10 years.

"It's an extremely bright group of young people," said Dan Schumacher, president of the Marshall. "We congratulate these students and we are delighted to offer these scholarships to help them continue their education."

--- Matthew Volz, son of Martin and Susan Volz, graduated from Virgil I. Grissom High School in Huntsville and plans to attend Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where he studied physics and engineering.

--- East Limestone High school certificate Maria Torres, daughter of Pablo and Maria Torres, plans to study engineering at the University of Alabama at Huntsville.

--- Robert Pendley, son of Earl and Lori Pendley, a graduate of Brewer High School in Morgan County, Alabama, and plans to attend the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he studied political science and Spanish.

--- Hannah Hicks, daughter of Shawn and Kellie Hicks, plans to attend Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama, to study primary education and library science. Hanna graduated from Hazel Green High School Hazel Green, Alabama
