Growing up, Geena Davis and David Strathairn acted together at summer theater. Davis says, "He was the star."

David Lander knows his baseball. He was once a scout for the Major Leagues.

Tom Hanks and Bill Pullman worked together again in 1993 in Sleepless in Seattle .

Ron Howard's father played Kit and Dottie's dad.

The conductor was director Penny Marshall's masseuse. He's also been Alec Baldwin's double.

Megan Cavanagh had never been on camera before this movie. She learned to switch hit for the role, something only 6% of major league players do.

Director Marshall wanted to cast fresh faces. This was Rosie O'Donnell's first movie. Madonna wasn't unknown, but Marshall needed a dancer, so she cast the pop star last minute.

Tom Hanks asked Marshall, who directed him to an Oscar nomination in Big Walter Harvey is based on Phil Wrigley, owner of Wrigley's gum and the Chicago Cubs.

Jonny's Daily Movie Review: Ballet Shoes - 5 stars out of 10

I began Ballet Shoes with a lot of skepticism, expecting a cheesy ABC Family film whose only draw was Emma Watson.  Though it is not a cinematic masterpiece, this movie manages to tell an interesting story of three orphans who find their place in the arts.  I appreciated the fact that the story focused on a classical repertoire of music and dance instead of a modern one (as 95% of recent movies do when involving the arts).  There was some interesting character development amidst the three girls, as their successes and failures shaped who they are.  Watson proves that she has a future beyond Harry Potter through a few effective emotional moments.  Surprisingly, the low point of this movie for me was the adults, whose characters were static and forgettable.  The ending was a bit abrupt and not entirely satisfying as little was resolved or explained but overall, I recommend this as a nice family film.
