Our Kitchenaid under counter ice maker stopped making ice. We had a tech come out yesterday. He diagnosed that the grid was bad. The grid wire was hanging down, while everything else seem to functioning properly. He tells us it is a $550.00 repair. Of course we ask him how much the part was and the labor. He was extremely evasive. He said that if we get the part else where, he would charge us $175.00 to do the repair. I found the part on line for $131.00 from Kitchenaid and various other on line companies. My question is, is this a repair that we can do ourselves, and if not, how long should this repair take and how much should a reputable tech charge? Thank you.
