SHERMAN, TX- The Grayson County Regional Mobility Authority and Texas Department of Transportation held a public meeting about a possible extension of the Dallas North Tollway.

The project would extend the Dallas North Tollway from FM 121 South of Gunter to U.S. 75 near Denison.  It would be 33 miles long. 

The last public meeting was held last November. There was a lot of feedback that helped shape the project. The Grayson County Tollway project team wants as much feedback as possible. They have taken special consideration to Denison, TX and Pottsboro, TX.

Mike Garrison, project manager of the Grayson County Tollway, said he has heard positive and negative comments, but people are mostly looking forward to the new opportunity for growth.  

"It'll be good for commerce, people will have homes, it'll be good. They can raise families, this is a beautiful country," said William Wachter. He is a landowner in the area, but from Arlington, TX.  

Someone who is having a harder time dealing with the uncertainly of the project, is Al Vrle. He owns a home, where one of the three proposed tollways could be placed.

"My homestead is there, we've been out there for some 40 years, and we kind of hate to give up the place and have it cut in two, but there is probably nothing we can do about it, we just have to make the best of it," Vrle said. 

the tollway isn't expected to break ground until the year 2035. It's estimated to cost up to $500 million.

Dallas North Tollway frontage roads will be closed beginning ...

Dallas North Tollway frontage roads will be closed in both directions at the Sam Rayburn Tollway starting late Friday and continuing through early Monday.

Ongoing placement of steel bridge beams on the Sam Rayburn Tollway/Dallas North Tollway interchange will require the closure of the Dallas North Tollway frontage roads at the Sam Rayburn Tollway from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday. The closures are necessary for the safety of the traveling public, as the bridge beams weigh more than 100 tons.

All northbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway frontage road (Dallas Parkway) will be closed from the southwest-bound Sam Rayburn Tollway frontage road (State Highway 121) to the Dallas North Tollway exit ramp to Gaylord Parkway in Frisco.

All southbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway frontage road will be closed from Gaylord Parkway in Frisco to the southwest-bound Sam Rayburn Tollway frontage road.

Detour routes: - Northbound Dallas North Tollway frontage road motorists will take the northeast-bound Sam Rayburn Tollway frontage road to northbound Parkwood Boulevard. They'll then use westbound Gaylord Parkway to reach the northbound Dallas North Tollway frontage road. Northbound motorists can also reach the southwest-bound Sam Rayburn Tollway frontage road from Parkwood Boulevard. - Delays are possible, and motorists are encouraged to avoid the closure area by using streets adjacent to the Sam Rayburn Tollway/Dallas North Tollway interchange as alternate routes.

The contractor will place electronic message boards and detour route signs to inform motorists and guide them through the closures. All closures are subject to weather conditions and will be rescheduled if necessary.
