Cooperation helped city land girls basketball finals
The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced Thursday that the tournament finals will be moved to Terre Haute after two years in Fort Wayne and Patterson, executive director of the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau, was effusive about the possibilities for the March 3 event — and a March 2 event as well. The eight competing teams will be guests at a pre-finals banquet the night before, which is believed to be a first. Terre Haute has hosted the IHSAA’s cross country championships at LaVern Gibson Championship Course since 2004, and Terre Haute North has been the host school for that event. It’s possible fewer volunteers will be needed for the girls state finals, since Hulman Center has its own staff in place for many of those jobs, but both Tanoos and Newport expect there will still be some involvement from the local schools. The former Marshall High School football coach had been selected as one of the Wabash Valley Football Coaches Association’s coaches of the year three years ago, which would have meant coaching the North All-Stars in the WVFCA’s annual June game.
