Police log: Money scam hits West 23rd Street

A caller reported his mother received a call at 12:12 p.m. from a man claiming to be her nephew on the 400 block of West 23rd Street. He told the woman he needed $600 for the coyotes in Mexico to sneak him into the United States. He told her he needed the money in an hour, but she said she didn’t know who he was. Police advised the caller that the incident was likely a money scam. 9:15 a.m.: A caller reported a man came out of the bushes and asked for water near Monument Drive and Sycamore Parkway. The caller said he was acting odd and wanted to have a welfare check made on him. Police checked the area, but they were unable to find him. Another caller at 9:32 a.m. reported a similar incident near Tracy Boulevard and Petrig Street. 1:22 p.m.: A caller reported a tenant at the Town House Motel, 607 W. 11th St., was keeping his dogs inside his car. He said the dogs are not allowed in the motel, so the dogs remain in the car. Police checked and found the dogs to be healthy, but issued the owner a warning. The dogs’ owner said he had made arrangements for their housing on June 10. 3:01 p.m.: A caller reported a social worker claims he and his wife were abusing his 91-year-old mother on the 100 block of Glenbriar Circle. He said the social worker wanted to stay until police arrived, but there was going to be a delay for police arrival. He called back and he said the social worker left. He said it was all due to his brother-in-law living in Idaho making false charges. He said he wanted to talk to an officer about pressing charges against the brother-in-law for filing false reports. 3:42 p.m.: A caller reported a problem with the owner of a business over a refund at Metro PCS, 933 S. Tracy Blvd. The caller said she refused to wait outside in her car. She said the owner told her they did not have to issue her a refund. Police then received a call from the business owner stating she and a male friend refuse to leave. Police checked and the woman was given a full refund and a warning about trespassing in the future. 7:52 p.m.: A caller reported check fraud at Walmart, 3010 W. Grant Line Road. She said she gave a check to a photography company in Stockton for pictures of her daughter’s swim team. She said that company reported 20 checks were stolen from them. Her bank advised her that her check to the company was washed and used at Walmart in Tracy. She said store officials had video of the person cashing the check.
